Barry G. Hittner joined the Firm of counsel in Feburary, 2003 and practices in both the estate planning and regulatory law areas. Mr. Hittner's experience includes the representation of both businesses and individuals in complex estate planning matters and the representation of insurance companies and financial institutions in regulatory matters. Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Hittner was an associate and then partner at Edwards & Angell, LLP from 1979 to 1994 and was counsel there from 1999 to 2003. From 1995 to 1999, he served as Director of Business Regulation for the State of Rhode Island, where his responsibilities included acting as the State Insurance Commissioner and Banking Commissioner and as receiver for insolvent insurance companies. Mr. Hittner received his B.S. degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point, an M.S. degree in physics and an M.S. degree in nuclear engineering from M.I.T., and his J.D. degree from the University of Virginia. He is a member of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. Mr. Hittner is a member of the board of directors of Amica Mutual Insurance Company, Amica Life Insurance Company and Washington Trust Company. He is active in community affairs and currently serves on the board of directors of Meeting Street Center, Trinity Repertory Company, Community Preparatory School and the Bannister Foundation. He is a member of the Advisory Board of Perishable Theatre and the Philanthropic Services Committee of the Rhode Island Foundation. Mr. Hittner is also a director of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce. |
