Mr. Easterling grew up in Denmark, South Carolina. He graduated from Clemson University with a degree in premedicine. After college, he began his career at Baxter Travenol in Kingstree, with a short interruption for a tour of duty as a medic in Vietnam. In July, 1977, Gist-Brocades DSM purchased the fermentation and recovery operation of Baxter and operated the plant site until 1994. At that time, 8 partners formed FermPro Manufacturing LP, assuming ownership of operations at this site. Mr. Easterling became its President and CEO. In September, 2003, Martek Biosciences Corporation acquired FermPro to expand its production capacity in developing products derived from microalgae. With the acquisition, he was named Vice President of Manufacturing of Martek. In March 2004, the Martek Board of Directors elected Mr. Easterling to the position of Senior Vice President of Manufacturing, continuing his duties over all operations at Martek’s Kingstree and Winchester facilities. |
