Barbara W. Schaefer was named senior vice president, Human Resources for Union Pacific Corporation in April 1997, and corporate secretary for Union Pacific Corporation in June 2004. She has 24 years of experience with the company. Prior to joining Union Pacific, Schaefer was an attorney in private practice in Omaha.
The Nebraska State Bar Association Foundation elected Schaefer as a fellow in 1998. She received the Urban League's "Welcome T. Bryant Board Member of the Year Award" in 2000 and 2001. The YWCA of Omaha named her a 2001 "Woman of Vision." She was honored by the University of Nebraska at Omaha's Athletic Department as a Distinguished Person of the Year in 2004, and received the Wellness Council of the Midland's Light of Wellness Leadership Award in 2004.
Schaefer is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Weitz Funds, a mutual fund company. She is active in the community and has served as a board member of many non-profit organizations. She is currently a member of the Board of Children's Hospital, Lauritzen Botanical Gardens, the University of Nebraska Foundation and Nebraskans for Research.
Schaefer holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, a J.D. from the University of Nebraska College of Law, and has completed the Program for Management Development at Harvard University. |
