A graduate of Smith College (MA), Dr. Benevento received her medical degree from the Albany Medical College (NY). She completed her first residency in internal medicine at the North Shore University Hospital (Long Island, NY), and then went on to complete a second residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at UMDNJ-NJ Medical School (Newark, NJ).
Dr. Benevento joined Kessler in 1997 as a board certified physiatrist with a sub-specialty certification in spinal cord injury medicine. As Clinical Chief of SCI services, she oversees these patients' rehabilitation process and also directs a number of special programs, including the Neurocontrol Freehand System Clinic.
She has lectured and published on various aspects of spinal cord injury and continues to conduct research in this area. In addition, she holds membership in several professional organizations and is on the faculty at UMDNJ-NJ Medical School. The students at the medical school recently named Dr. Benevento "Teacher of the Year" for her outstanding abilities as an educator. |
