Barbara Kroner, PhD, is a senior epidemiologist in RTI’s Rockville, MD office, and has been with RTI since 1983. For the past 19 years, she has managed complex multicenter national and international epidemiologic studies of genetic and environmental risk factors related to viral and chronic disease, most notably outcomes related to HIV and HCV infection among persons with hemophilia. She has considerable knowledge regarding the practical techniques of biospecimen collection, processing, handling, and testing as components for epidemiologic studies. She was appointed chair of RTI’s Biospecimen Subcommittee under the Regulatory Affairs Working Group, which developed a new policy regarding infectious substances and diagnostics specimens. Dr. Kroner’s other research interests include epilepsy and the growth and development of children with disabilites. Under a recent grant award, Dr. Kroner is establishing an international registry for Aicardi syndrome to update existing prevalence, incidence, and survival estimates, as well as to describe the full spectrum of developmental progress among affected cases. |
