Barbara E. Roberts possesses extensive experience in municipal law, including expertise in the following areas: land and zoning, annexation, elections, civil service, police and fire collective bargaining, and the Public Information Act. As a former City Attorney and a current member of the Galveston City Council, Ms. Roberts has a full understanding of both the legal and political consequences of decisions clients face. Ms. Roberts has developed a particular practice focus in labor and employment law, including issues involving the Family and Medical Leave Act, Workers' Compensation Act, Pay Day Act, termination of employment and neutral termination policies. She is also an experienced mediator. She represents clients including cities, counties, mental health and mental retardation centers, school districts and other governmental entities, as well as private companies in state and federal courts and before various agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Texas Commission on Human Rights. Prior to entering the practice of law, Ms. Roberts was a Certified Financial Planner and served as a Training Manager and District Manager for American Express Financial Services. She also served as an Accounting Manager for a manufacturing company. |
