B.K. Chin assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer and Director of Global Industries on October 1, 2006, leaving his post as President and Chief Operating Officer for Air Liquide USA LLC. Mr. Chin succeeds William J. Doré, Global Industries' founder and CEO from 1973 to the present, who will be retiring from active management.
Mr. Chin has more than 25 years of experience managing engineering and marine construction projects for the energy services industry. Global's Board of Directors selected Mr. Chin using a thorough worldwide search process and a recognized international search firm. Ambassador Ed Djerejian, the Board's lead director, said "The board is confident that B.K. is the right person to assume the leadership mantle and that the succession plan we have in place will provide for a seamless transition.
He began his career in 1974 as a design engineer in Brown & Root’s Singapore office. After working for two years in the United States, Chin returned to Singapore to become a project manager. His responsibilities grew with the company and he was promoted to managing director, responsible for all of Brown & Root’s Engineering business in the Asia-Pacific Region in 1985. In 1991, Chin moved back to the United States and was promoted to vice president of the energy services business where his responsibilities included energy services for North and South America and West Africa. The business grew six fold to $600 million during the period from 1991 to 1997.
Chin was promoted to senior vice president and moved to Brown & Root’s London office in 1998 to oversee the energy services business on a global basis with accountability for annual revenue of U.S. $2.3 billion, and a staff population of 10,000 people.
Chin joined Air Liquide, the leader in industrial and medical gases, in June 2001. B.K. was responsible for the company’s U.S. industrial gas business entities, which employ 4000 people serving diverse markets in Large Industries, Industrial Customers and Electronics. He also headed its legal, quality, compliance and safety, information technology and supply chain management functions.
Chin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Singapore and has completed graduate level courses in engineering at the University of Houston. He is also a member of the Institution of Engineers in Singapore and Malaysia, is a registered professional engineer in Singapore and Malaysia, is a chartered engineer in the U.K., and is an advisory board member of ASME. |
