Dr. Austin Burgess is Director of the Emergency Department at Carteret General Hospital. Dr. Burgess started with EMP at Carteret General Hospital on a part-time basis in February 2003 and became full-time in July 2003. Dr. Burgess received his undergraduate training at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan where he graduated with honors. He received his Medical Degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. He completed a Transitional Internship at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado and completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at Madigan Army Medical Center/University of Washington in Tacoma, Washington, where he was Chief Resident. Dr. Burgess previously served as Chief of Emergency Medical Services at Irwin Army Community Hospital in Fort Riley, Kansas. He was also a Staff Physician, Medical Director of the Ambulance Section and QI Director of the Section of EMS at Irwin Army Community Hospital. During his military service, he has received two Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, Flight Surgeon Badge, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and was an Honor Graduate of the U.S. Army Flight Surgeon School. Dr. Burgess is board certified in Emergency Medicine and is a member of the American College of Emergency Medicine. |
