Attilio has deep experience as both a financier and banking executive. He founded and operated companies that engaged in venture capital, private equity, and investment banking. While in venture capital, Attilio worked on turnaround situations and early stage companies. In the banking industry, he has demonstrated a vast array of skills in the areas of corporate finance, risk management, credit administration, and regulatory matters. Attilio draws on both abilities in assisting 2nd Generation with its portfolio companies and clients.
Attilio began his banking career in 1974 with Citibank (then Citicorp). He performed asset securitizations, project finance assignments, and other banking activities in the US and abroad, frequently working in the oil and gas industry. Clients included multinational companies as well as foreign governments. He also turned around a foreign bank that required improved credit quality and cost controls.
Attilio currently serves as senior vice president of Tennessee based American Security Bank. In the early 1990s, Attilio served as chief lending officer at MetroBank, N.A., in Houston. MetroCorp Bancshares, Inc. hired him in 1998 to make acquisitions and to take the bank through its successful initial public offering. In 2000, Attilio was hired by The Bank of Nashville and its parent company, Community Financial Group, to improve the performance of the bank with the expectation of a strategic sale of the parent. The Bank of Nashville sold to Synovus Financial Group in 2002. These experiences highlight his broad base of expertise and high level of professional performance.
In between banking roles, Attilio pursued a career in venture capital and investment banking. He helped to start an investment bank, McKenna and Company in 1990 that performed M&A, restructuring, and private placement assignments, including bank acquisitions and restructuring of a NYSE listed bank holding company. Alliance Financial of Houston hired Attilio as CEO to establish and administer a venture capital fund in 1993. During his five years there, he oversaw all responsibilities of managing a venture fund. Finally, he founded a venture capital and consulting company, Cogito Ventures that did similar work.
