Dr. Feldman is the Chairman of Medicine at Jefferson Medical College and one of the nation's leading cardiologists. He has a long-standing interest in both the molecular and clinical aspects of congestive heart failure (CHF). At the molecular level, he has been focused on identifying genes that serve as markers for CHF. At the clinical level, he has studied the use of genetically engineered proteins to treat the disease. Dr. Feldman received his undergraduate degree from Gettysburg College, his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, and his M.D. from Louisiana State University School of Medicine. He was an intern, resident, cardiology fellow and faculty member at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, and later associate professor of medicine and director of the Peter Belfer Laboratory for the Molecular Biology of Heart Failure at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. In addition, he was director of the heart failure research program in the Johns Hopkins' Division of Cardiology. In 1994, Dr. Feldman moved to Pittsburgh as the Harry S. Tack Professor of Medicine and Professor of Cell Biology and Physiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine where he was Chief of the Division of Cardiology and also directed the Cardiovascular Institute of the UPMC Health System. In 2002, he assumed the position of Magee Professor of Medicine and Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Jefferson Medical College. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine as a Diplomate in internal medicine and as a Diplomate in cardiovascular disease. His special interests include congestive heart failure and cardiac transplantation. Dr. Feldman has served on the editorial boards of numerous medical journals including Circulation Research and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, has served as senior editor for Congestive Heart Failure and associate editor of the Journal of Cardiac Failure. |
