The Cardinals fifth-round pick in the 2004 NFL Draft (135th overall), Smith spent the first 13 games of the 2004 season as a member of the practice squad and was signed to the active roster on 12/15/04 where he saw action in two of the final three games of the season. Spent the spring of 2005 with the Hamburg Sea Devils of NFL Europe, starting nine-of-10 games and finished with six sacks, 28 tackles and a forced fumble while earning all-NFL Europe honors at season’s end. Re-signed with the Cardinals on 4/4/07, agreeing to a one-year contract.
2006: Appeared in all 16 games (8 starts) for the first time in his career while also recording a career high in tackles (29) collected one tackle and recovered his first career fumble, by Marc Bulger, late in the fourth quarter vs. StL (9/24) collected four tackles while registering his first sack of the season when he corralled Michael Vick on a third-and-eight play in the second quarter @ Atl (10/1) received his first start of the season at defensive tackle, collected two tackles and two QB pressures vs. Chi (10/16) ended the day with four tackles, adding one pass defensed and one QB pressure in his third start of the season @ Min (11/26) collected three tackles, a half sack and a quarterback pressure @ StL (12/3) had four tackles, one sack and a QB pressure vs. Sea (12/10) put on another impressive display, collecting five tackles, two tackles for a loss and a fumble recovery which he picked up and ran back four yards for a TD to pull the Cardinals to within three points in the second quarter vs. Den (12/17).
2005: Released by the Cardinals during the final roster cut on 9/3 after spending training camp with the team and was resigned to the practice squad on 9/8 where he spent the first four weeks of the season recorded his first career start @ Det (11/13) as injuries decimated the defensive line; recorded three tackles including one for a loss recorded two tackles and forced a fumble vs. Jax (11/27) recorded his first two career sacks @ Hou (12/18) and added one tackle recorded two tackles vs. Phi (12/24) sacked Colts QB Jim Sorgi for his third sack of the season @ Ind (1/1).
2004: Signed to the 53-man active roster on 12/15 after spending the first 13 weeks as a member of the practice squad saw action on defense in his first game on the active roster vs. StL (12/19) and @ Sea (12/26) and recorded one QB pressure deactivated for the season finale vs. Tampa Bay (1/2).
College:
Two-year starter at Oklahoma State after transferring from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College though senior season shortened by leg injury, still managed to record two-year totals of 60 tackles (30 solos), 8.5 sacks, seven quarterback pressures and three pass deflections in 24 games.
