Tony Valletta leads SRA's Defense Sector, the largest segment of SRA's defense business. The Sector provides full information systems life cycle support, network operations support, and project management support to the Department of Defense (DoD), the defense agencies, the armed services, and their installations. Valletta previously led SRA's Command and Control, Communications, and Intelligence (C3I) Sector.
Before joining SRA in 1998, Valletta was acting assistant secretary for C3I at DoD, responsible for information management and intelligence-related activities and as the DoD chief information officer, ensuring implementation of the Clinger-Cohen Act. He served as the deputy assistant secretary of defense for C3I acquisition from 1994 to 1997.
Prior to his appointment to the Office of the Secretary of Defense, Valletta was vice director of information systems for command, control, communications, and computers and the senior civilian responsible for Army information technology. He also served in the Army Signal Corps and as program executive officer (PEO) for the Standard Army Management Information Systems (STAMIS), managing research, development, systems engineering integration, testing, logistics fielding, and resource management of the Army's most critical information systems software and hardware programs.
Valletta has received numerous military and civilian commendations and awards, including the Presidential Rank and Office of the Secretary of Defense Distinguished Civilian Service awards. He was inducted into the Government Computer News Information Technology Hall of Fame in 1998, and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA).
