Dr. Anthony Barbato was elected to the CHP board of trustees in 1997 and assumed the role of board chair in 2006. From 1995 until his retirement early in 2007, he served as president and chief executive officer, Loyola University Health System. Currently, he is Professor of Medicine Emeritus, Stritch School of Medicine, Loyola University of Chicago.
Dr. Barbato’s administrative experience includes a wide range of executive leadership appointments within Loyola University Health System. Before appointment as CEO, he was executive vice president, provost and chief administrative officer and vice president, Health Affairs. Other administrative appointments with the Stritch School of Medicine include dean, executive dean, assistant chairman of Medicine for Post-Graduate Education and program director for Internal Medicine Residency. Dr. Barbato earned board certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Endocrinology and Metabolism.
Dr. Barbato earned his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Windsor and his M.D. from the Stritch School of Medicine, Loyola University of Chicago. He has received numerous academic awards and honors and is a member, fellow or leader in multiple medical organizations. This includes having served as chairman of the Association of Academic Health Centers in 2000. He is currently a board member of the University Health Systems Consortium. Dr. Barbato has been a member of the board of trustees of St. Ignatius College Prep (Chicago) since 1999 and was chairman of that board from 2002 to 2005. |
