Anthony (A.J.) Filippis began his career with Wright & Filippis in 1968 as and orthotic and prosthetic technician. The son of company founder Anthony Filippis, Sr., A.J. served as vice president from 1981 - 1997; and in 1997 he succeeded his older brother - the late Gene Filippis - as president of the company. A.J. holds an Associates Degree in Business from Oakland University, as well as several professional certifications in orthotics and prosthetics. He obtained his certification in both disciplines from Northwestern University in Chicago, and is certified by the American Board for Certification (ABC). In addition to his professional certifications, A.J. is a member of several professional organizations: Program Advisory and Oversight Committee for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services American Board for Certification in Prosthetics & Orthotics American Academy of Orthotists & Prosthetists Chairman, Region B, American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association Task Force Region B Representative, American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association DMERC-SADMERC Work Group Board of Directors, American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association Surveyor for American Board of Certification in Prosthetics & Orthotics facility accreditation Former committee member, Medical Advisory for State of Michigan Former board of directors member and committee president, American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association Past president, Region V, American Orthotic & Prosthetic Association A.J. has also been active in a number of community programs, including the Athletes with Disabilities Hall of Fame, of which he serves as president. A.J. is also president of the Filippis Foundation, a non-profit corporation established by Wright & Filippis, which offers a multitude of services and programs that allow the physically challenged the independence to see their dreams turn to reality. Other organizations to which A.J. contributes include the Oakland University School of Nursing Board of Visitors and the Camp Sancta Maria Board of Directors. A.J. was the recipient of the 2003 Ernst & Young Eastern Michigan Entrepreneur of the Year Award, in the Health Sciences division. Family has always been important to A.J. He and his wife, Mary, have six children - Anthony III, Jennifer, Matthew, Jeremiah, Ryan and Dominic - and five grandchildren, Adriana, Anthony IV, Emily, Thomas and Kaylee. |
