Before joining Modern Bank, Mr. Burke was the President and Chief Operating Officer of New York Community Bank and the Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of its holding company, New York Community Bancorp, Inc., a $24 billion integrated financial services firm, as well as a member of its Board of Directors from July 31, 2001 to December 31, 2003. Prior to the merger of Richmond County Financial Corp. with and into New York Community Bancorp, Inc., Mr. Burke served as President and Chief Operating Officer and as a member of the Board of Directors of Richmond County Financial Corp. and Richmond County Savings Bank. Under his guidance, the bank completed a successful IPO and grew its assets from $800 million to over $3 billion. Before joining Richmond, Mr. Burke was affiliated for 25 years with the financial services industry group of Ernst & Young LLP, and served the last 13 years as a Partner. Mr. Burke is a Director of Long Island Lutheran High School, a former Director of the Richmond County Savings Foundation and of Peter B. Cannell & Co., Inc., an investment advisory firm, and a Trustee Emeritus of the Brooklyn Youth Chorus.Mr. Burke earned his MBA degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business and his undergraduate degree from St. John's University. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. |
