Anne Newtown serves as our General Counsel. She is responsible for overseeing and managing the legal affairs of the company to ensure the availability of competent, timely, and cost efficient legal services. In addition, she is responsible for working with outside counsel to communicate and monitor policies to ensure compliance with law within the company.
Ms. Newtown has over nineteen years of experience in the practice of law with a primary focus on real estate. Prior to joining AmREIT, she was with Vinson & Elkins, LLP, a Houston-based international law firm, where she represented clients in all aspects of real estate law.
Ms. Newtown received an Associate of Arts degree in liberal arts from Stephens College, a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Colorado (Phi Beta Kappa), and subsequently earned her Juris Doctor degree cum laude from the University of Houston Law Center. She is licensed to practice in the State of Texas. She is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Houston Bar Association, the Association of Corporate Counsel, the Houston Real Estate Lawyers Council, and is a founding member of the Houston chapter of Commercial Real Estate Women. She has served as Chair of the Planning Committee for the South Texas College of Law Real Estate Law Seminar in 2005 and 2006, and is currently serving as Chair of the 2007 Planning Committee. She is a member of the Alumnae Assoociation Board for Stephens College. |
