As Executive Vice President of Corporate Communications and Public Affairs for Western Union, McCarthy is responsible for the company's overall communications strategy. She oversees global media relations, internal communications, reputation management, government relations, community relations and the Western Union Foundation. McCarthy is based in Englewood, Colo., at Western Union's global headquarters.
McCarthy joined Western Union in 2007 after working for four years as the Senior Vice President of Global Communications for SAP A.G. At SAP, McCarthy led the communications activities for SAP's Customer Solutions and Operations (CSO) division, including global, regional and local media relations; new media; customer communications; partner and channel communications; the competitive program office; and executive and employee communications.
In addition, McCarthy has 25 years of corporate and agency communications experience and has worked in senior-level positions throughout the world at E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company, Polaroid Corporation, IBM Corporation, Sara Lee Corporation and Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide.
McCarthy earned a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from Michigan State University and has completed executive education programs at The Wharton School, the University of Pennsylvania and at INSEAD at Fontainebleau.
