Anne Birdsong Biography :

Anne was elected to Phi Beta Kappa upon receiving her bachelor's degree from Tulane. She received her J.D. degree from Tulane Law School in 1992, where she served as Managing Editor of the Tulane Maritime Law Journal and received Honors in Trial Advocacy. She was also the recipient of the Award for Highest Class Standing in Civil Law Seminar. During her last year of law school, Anne was a judicial extern for the Honorable Ronald A. Fonseca, United States District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana. Anne is a member of the New Orleans Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, and the Louisiana Bar Association, where she served as Chair of the Young Lawyers' Section from 2000 to 2001. Additionally, she was a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association Board of Governors, and served as a Board Director of the Louisiana Bar Foundation, where she is a Distinguished Charter Fellow. Anne was a member of the Louisiana State Law Institute, Access to Justice Committee, and Committee on Consumer Fraud and Protection. Recently, she chaired the Public Service Committee of the Louisiana Bar Association. Anne is admitted to practice before all state and federal courts in Louisiana, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the United States Supreme Court, and on a pro hac vice basis, before various state and federal courts in Mississippi, Alabama, and Texas. Anne's practice is concentrated on toxic tort and environmental litigation, with emphasis on class action and mass tort cases. She has served as co-lead trial counsel in several cases involving chemical releases or contamination in which thousands of plaintiffs have sued alleging personal injury and property damage. Of particular note is her focus on the medical aspect of these cases, specifically on disproving the plaintiffs' alleged physical injuries and on refuting the plaintiffs' experts' "junk science." Additionally, she specializes in managing the intensive proof of claims/discovery process and lengthy trials associated with class actions and mass torts to ensure a cost-effective, yet high-quality result. Anne also has extensive experience in defending maritime personal injury claims, hearing loss claims, and individual chemical exposure claims through trial and appeal. Anne's publications include: Commercial Mayhem on the (Trans-)Orient Express: Trans-Orient Marine Corp. v. Star Trading & Marine, Inc., 16 Tul. Mar. L.J. 203 (1991) and The Best Repellant for the Class Action Mosquito, Vol. 1, Issue 1, American Bar Association Mass Torts Litigation Committee Newsletter. Additionally, Anne has spoken before industry and legal groups on several occasions regarding environmental law, toxic torts and class actions.
