Aniosca Cortinas is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Firm’s Boston office. She is a member of the Firm’s Health Law Department.
Prior to joining McDermott, Ani was a senior corporate attorney for Baptist Health South Florida Inc. There, she supported the health care system in obtaining tax-exempt bond financing. She also aided in structuring physician transactions in compliance with state and federal fraud and abuse laws and regulations. Ani has experience in assisting the health care system in licensing its hospitals, independent diagnostic treatment facilities, ambulatory surgery centers, urgent care centers, laboratories, pharmacies and other outpatient facilities. She also has a background in responding to state and federal complaints relating to Florida Access to Care laws and the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA).
Ani has experience in drafting bylaws, rules and regulations and policies and procedures and in implementing and complying with such documents. She has drafted various types of agreements including physician, employment, staffing agency, patient transfer and education affiliation agreements. She has advised hospitals and outpatient facilities on state and federal regulatory and licensure matters.
While an associate for a large international law firm in Florida, Ani advised hospitals, health care delivery systems, long-term care companies, medical equipment companies, physicians, and other health care providers on fraud and abuse-related issues, Medicare and Medicaid billing, and federal and state regulatory and licensure matters. She also advised and represented clients in administrative proceedings regarding health care fraud and compliance matters.
Ani is a member of the American Bar Association, Health Lawyers Division and a member of the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA). She also is a member of the Cuban American Bar Association and Delta Sigma Pi, Professional Business Fraternity. Ani is fluent in Spanish.
