In December, the San Francisco 49ers named one of the industry’s most experienced sports business executives, Andy Dolich, to the new position of chief operating officer of the team. Dolich comes to the 49ers from the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies where he has been President of Business Operations for the team and for FedExForum. Dolich will join the 49ers organization after the first of the year and assume control of all non-football operations of the team, including marketing, sponsorships, and facilities. I’m tremendously excited to bring an executive of Andy’s caliber into the 49ers family, said team owner John York. He has a proven track record in every aspect of sports business management as well as deep roots in Bay Area professional sports. He’ll be a great asset to the team and a mentor to the rest of the front office. Dolich’s 36 year career in the sports business has spanned executive positions in the NBA, NHL, and Major League Baseball. He spent fourteen of those years, from 1980 to 1994, with the Oakland A’s which was then under the ownership of the Haas family. He was a driving force in the creation of the Billy Ball marketing campaign which resulted in an increase in annual attendance from 800,000 to 2.9 million. He also served as president of the Golden State Warriors during the 1994 -1995 season. Even as the A’s were winning championships highlighted by the Battle of the Bay World Series in 1989, I always looked across the Bay in admiration of the gold standard that the Niner’s exemplified in Northern California sports lore. Dolich said. I’m eager to work with Denise and John York and the 49ers organization, using my sports business skills to ensure that this storied franchise remains one of the most venerable and valuable in all of professional sports.
A native of New York, Dolich received his undergraduate degree in Government from American University in Washington D.C. and his Masters in Sports Management from Ohio University. |
