Prior to WeatherBug, Andrew Rosenthal worked as a forecaster for a cloud seeding project in Bismarck, ND. He received a Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric Science from Cornell University.
Fun Fact: Rosenthal is a huge Boston Red Sox fan he has attended at least one game every year since 1986. He also enjoys swimming (swam competitively from 1987-99) and studying the weather, especially lightning. He even spotted a tornado:
"While on an internship in southern California, my boss decided to take me on a storm chase... in my car (claiming that his didn't have A/C). We drove out into the middle of the Mojave Desert, where we picked up the moisture and temperatures near 105. After about an hour of driving along desert roads, we found the storms starting to build. All of the sudden the clouds started rotating above us. Despite the rotation, it was incredible calm at the ground. It must have been the quietest I've ever heard middle of the desert with no animals or wind. All of the sudden the wind picked up and the clouds started rotating toward the ground about 500 yards from the road. A tornado had formed! It lasted about 10 minutes, picking up some sand and dirt from the desert floor before collapsing, but my boss and I stood by the car in awe watching the tornado. Officially, it was a landspout, a very weak tornado. But in my mind, it was a wonder to watch... actually seeing weather at work while remaining in a safe position." |
