Andrew Perlman, co-founder, president and chief executive officer at GreatPoint Energy, is an entrepreneur who has co-founded six venture-backed companies in four separate industries. Prior to founding GreatPoint Energy, Mr. Perlman served as the chief executive officer and co-founder of Coatue Corporation, a microelectronics company developing novel polymer materials for use in the semiconductor industry, where he orchestrated the merger of Coatue Corp. with Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE: AMD), the world’s largest manufacturer of flash memory chips, in June 2003. In 1995, Mr. Perlman founded Cignal Global Communications, a pioneer in voice over data network communications, and served as president until 2000. At that time, he helped orchestrate the sale of the company to United Pan-European Communications (NASDAQ: UCOMA), one of the largest cable operators in Europe. Mr. Perlman has also co-founded Coskata Ethanol, a cellulosic ethanol technology developer; Sirtris Pharmaceuticals, a biotechnology company developing treatments for diseases of old age; and Zafgen, a developer of anti-obesity therapeutics. In addition to GreatPoint Energy, Mr. Perlman is a managing partner with GreatPoint Ventures, a specialized investment firm focused on early stage commercialization of new, cutting-edge technologies. Since its inception in 2001, he has played an integral role in the forming and building of companies active in a broad spectrum of investment sectors including energy, biotech, telecom, material science and semiconductors. Collectively, these companies have raised in excess of $200M from some of the leading venture capital and private equity investors in the world. Mr. Perlman was selected by the Boston Business Journal as one of its ‘40 Under 40’ most promising business people in Massachusetts and has been profiled by the Wall Street Journal as a leading young entrepreneur on the move. |
