Andrew Kumamoto is a partner in the law firm McDermott Will & Emery LLP based in the Silicon Valley office. Andy is a member of the Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department where he specializes in patent litigation and strategic patent analysis and counseling. He also has experience in life sciences and biotechnology.
Andy has experience in all areas of intellectual property law, including patent litigation, technology transactions, U.S. and international patent prosecution, patent analysis and opinions. He also has extensive in-house experience having served as the outside general counsel for Target Quest, LLC, the Director of Intellectual Property for Hyseq, Inc., and Patent Counsel for Cell Genesys, Inc. and Xenotech, Inc.
Andy earned his Ph.D. in molecular biology (NIH Fellowship in Genetics) and a Bachelor of Science ( magna cum laude, departmental honors ) in biochemistry.
Andy is a member of the California State Bar and is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He is also admitted to practice before the Federal Circuit, Ninth Circuit, and the United States District Courts for the Northern, Central and Southern Districts of California.
