Mr. Gilford has tried numerous cases in both state and federal courts. He has successfully prosecuted and defended clients in significant litigation matters involving intellectual property, contract, unfair competition, business tort, real estate, corporate control, fraud, defamation, and insurance coverage disputes.
Mr. Gilford has been annually named a Southern California Super Lawyer by Law & Politics and the publishers of Los Angeles Magazine. He has also been named a California Super Lawyer in the Corporate Counsel Edition by the Super Lawyers publication.
Mr. Gilford´s representative experience includes the following:
Multi-million dollar jury verdict for client arising out of breach of oral agreement to license software product.
Multi-million dollar jury verdict, including punitive damage award, in favor of client in law firm partnership dispute.
Jury trial involving alleged breach of agreement to provide television programming, resulting in nonsuit for client television station.
Defense verdict in favor of client in trial alleging a prescriptive easement over client´s ranch property.
Trial of contract and fraud claim on behalf of multi-national chemical company resulting in substantial verdict for client.
Successful prosecution of a several-month binding arbitration of a dispute between a major utility´s independent power producer subsidiary and an equipment manufacturer, involving hundreds of claims for breach of warranty and product defect.
Representation of clients in complex business and commercial disputes, including matters involving antitrust violations, business torts, unfair competition, intellectual property claims, and fraud.
Representation of clients in real estate matters, including purchase agreement, easement, boundary, trespass, and nuisance disputes.
Prosecution of insurance coverage disputes on behalf of policyholders, including claims for bad faith, resulting in the payment of millions of dollars in benefits for defense and indemnity under CGL and D&O policies.
Defense of various contract and tort disputes on behalf of energy company clients, including claims involving wind turbine generators, the calculation and payment of royalty streams, the disposition of hazardous waste streams from geothermal power plants, the buyout of power purchase agreements, the use and application of Emission Reduction Credits, and other matters involving claims for indemnification, breach of fiduciary duty and fraud.
Representation of clients in appellate matters before the California Supreme Court, Ninth Circuit, and state and federal courts of appeal.
