Dr. Andrew M. Clark is president and founder of Maritime Communication Services (MCS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Harris Corporation. He reports to the group president of Integrated Systems and Services. MCS provides communication systems and broadband satellite services to seagoing vessels, manned and unmanned offshore platforms, as well as to terrestrial sites in regions of the world that are remote, undeveloped, or ravaged by natural or manmade disaster. Prior to joining Harris in 1998, Dr. Clark was engineering director of Florida’s prestigious Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution. He began his maritime engineering career in the offshore oil and gas industry working for Sun Oil Co. (SUNOCO). Dr. Clark has an extensive technical background with over 25 years working in the maritime industry, in both R&D and operations, and both government as well as commercial projects. He has been awarded both U.S. and international patents for the development of unique systems and has authored more than 40 technical publications. He was recently appointed by the U.S. Secretary of the Navy to serve on the nation’s Ocean Research Advisory Panel and is on the engineering faculty of both Florida Institute of Technology and Florida Atlantic University. He earned a Ph.D. in engineering from the University of Hawaii and is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE). Dr. Clark serves on the boards of the Link Foundation and the Florida Ocean Alliance, the Advisory Committee of Florida’s Center of Excellence in Biomedical and Marine Biotechnology, is a member of the SeaSpace Symposium, past president and Fellow of the Marine Technology Society, and senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. In 2003, Dr. Clark was the recipient of the Lockheed Martin Medal, awarded for Ocean Science and Technology.
