Andrew J. Kohut was appointed chief executive officer and elected a director of Chesapeake Corporation effective November 10 2005.
He has served as president of Chesapeake since January 3 2005. Prior to being named to that position Mr. Kohut served as executive vice president & chief financial officer since December 2001. In that role he led the company's financial function and was responsible for corporate strategy and managing Chesapeake’s investments in developing markets.
Mr. Kohut served as senior vice president-strategic business development from 1998 to 2001. During that time he was instrumental in shaping the company’s strategic transformation into an international specialty packaging company.
From 1996 to 1998 Mr. Kohut was group vice president-display & packaging. He was named group vice president-finance & strategic development & chief financial officer in 1995 after serving as vice president-finance & chief financial officer since 1991. As chief financial officer in the mid-1990s he played a key role in Chesapeake’s decision to exit its kraft linerboard business and also directed the company’s first public equity offering since 1945.
After joining Chesapeake in 1979 Mr. Kohut held various accounting finance and strategic management positions before being named president and general manager of Color-Box Inc. a wholly owned Chesapeake subsidiary in 1989.
Mr. Kohut passed the Certified Public Accountant exam in 1980 and is involved in numerous civic associations including The Catholic Diocese of Richmond Va. where he serves on both the finance council and housing corporation. He also is a member of Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Business advisory board and has been an instructor with Junior Achievement of Central Virginia.
He received a bachelor's degree in business administration with honors from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a master's degree in business administration from The College of William and Mary.
