Andrew Harris has been associated with Georgia Tech for fourteen years as director of Government Relations and special assistant to President G. Wayne Clough. As Georgia Tech's chief liaison to all levels of government, Harris is a relationship-builder and advocate of the Institute's educational and economic value to the state and nation. Five years ago, he added adjunct professor to his Tech responsibilities and continues to teach an undergraduate course in state and local government in the School of Public Policy.
Prior to coming to Georgia Tech, Harris worked as a budget analyst for the Georgia General Assembly, as a policy analyst in the state's Office of Planning and Budget during Governor Joe Frank Harris's administration, and as legislative director for the newly formed Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education in 1987.
Harris holds a master's degree in Public Administration and a bachelor of arts in Political Science, both from the University of Georgia. From 1990 to 2002, he served three terms as mayor pro tempore and a member of the Decatur City Commission. He is a member of the state Department of Revenue Advisory Board and chairman of the Children and Youth Coordinating Council and was appointed by Supreme Court Chief Justice Robert Benham to the Blue Ribbon Commission on the Judiciary.
Harris is past president of the Georgia Municipal Association and a member of its board of directors. He was a member of the 1994 class of Leadership Georgia; is past president of the DeKalb Municipal Association; and is active in a number of civic and business organizations including the Atlanta Metro Chamber and the Georgia Economic Developers Association. |
