André Fortier was born in Gaspé (Québec) December 15, 1940. He completed his classical studies at the Séminaire de Gaspé and the Collège St-Charles Garnier of Québec. After obtaining his Bachelor
of Arts degree he was admitted to the law faculty of the Université Laval. He obtained his law degree in 1964 and was admitted to the Québec Bar Association in June 1965 and remained a member.He joined Noranda Inc. at its Head Office in Toronto in 1965. He pursued his career in various positions in Human Resources and was appointed Vice-President, Employee Relations, for Noranda Minerals in 1986.In January 1989, he was appointed Senior First Vice-President, Noranda Inc., responsible for the strategic positioning of Noranda in Québec.In July 1991, he became President and Chief Executive Officer of Kerr Addison Mines Limited, a Noranda affiliated company with investments in Minnova Inc. and Anderson Explorations Inc. as well as an important mining exploration property portfolio.Following the sale of the Kerr assets, he resigned from Kerr Addison on August 31, 1993 to pursue his involvement in mining exploration and development in Québec by becoming President and Chief Executive Officer of GéoNova Explorations Inc. He assumed, in April 1996, the position of Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of MSV Resources Inc., a mining company operating in the Chibougamau area. He is, since December 2000, President and Chief Executive Officer of Campbell Resources Inc. In June of 2001, the three (3) companies were merged into Campbell Resources Inc.He has acted as a director over the last 10 years for Richmont Mines, Southern Africa Minerals Corporation, Sequoia Minerals and Forest Gate Resources. He currently sits on the boards of Norcast Income Trust, Excellon Resources Inc. and Ferrivnov Inc., a private company.He is an Honorary Member and former Chairman of the Fondation de l’Université Laval and past Chairman of the Board of the Conseil du Patronat du Québec (June 1998 to 2002). |
