House Supervisor Ashley Chavers was working with another nurse on a critically ill patient. Despite heroic efforts, the injuries were too severe and the patient passed away. Ashley knew the family was already in route from out of state and wouldn’t arrive at the hospital for two hours. Then she thought how tragic it would be to be in their position. Can you imagine arriving at the hospital praying for the best, only to be led to the morgue?
Since the patient had come through the Emergency Department, a room had not been assigned yet. Ashley called the Oncology Unit and Amy Jones graciously accepted the patient on her unit and took care of all the post-mortem care. She made arrangements so when the family arrived, they could spend time with their loved one in the privacy of a room saying final good-byes. |
