Amar K. Pai is vice president, Finance Operations and Corporate Controller for Avaya. Avaya is a leading global provider of business communications applications, systems and services.
Pai is responsible for management and oversight of worldwide finance operations, accounting, and corporate financial planning and analysis. He leads a team of financial and accounting professionals to improve financial processes and operations, design and implement enterprise-wide financial controls, continuously improve financial transparency to investors and provide decision support to aid the execution of the company's strategies. Pai serves on the Board of Directors and the Audit Committee of Avaya GlobalConnect, a publicly traded Enterprise Communications company in India.
Prior to his current position with Avaya, Pai held increasingly responsible leadership positions at Unisys Corporation for sixteen years, particularly in the international arena. He served most recently as vice president of Finance, World Wide Sales and Services for Unisys where he was responsible for managing all aspects of finance operations for the company's subsidiaries and provided decision support to the field sales and delivery management teams.
From 1996 to 1999 Pai was vice president of Finance and Operations for Pacific, Asia, Americas and Africa. During this assignment he achieved continuous improvements in the profitability and return on investment while achieving the highest client and employee satisfaction within the company. During part of this period, Pai was also responsible for delivery and quality of complex systems integration projects within the region.
Pai served as vice president of Finance for Europe, Middle East and Africa from 1993 to 1996. Based in London, he led the efforts and achieved significant improvements in the working capital, established a shared service center and developed processes and methodologies to measure portfolio profitability that led to strategic realignment of the region.
Prior to his European assignment, Pai served as the director of Finance for Latin American region from 1990 to 1993 where he successfully managed the financial exposures during the region's volatile economic times. He led Corporate Financial Planning based in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania from 1988 to 1990. Pai was also director of Finance at Unisys de Mexico based in Mexico City from 1986 to 1989. Pai began his career in 1978 with Burroughs Corporation in Information Technology.
Pai received a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from the National Institute of Engineering in India. He earned an M.S. in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Ohio University and an M.B.A. in Finance from Wayne State University. He is fluent in Hindi and Spanish. |
