Working directly with Karim Alibhai and Greg Denton, Aly-khan S. Merali is involved in managing the acquisition, disposition and financing activities associated with many of Gencom’s luxury, mid-tier, and upscale limited service resorts and hotels. In carrying out these activities, Aly-khan regularly draws on the core competencies that exist within Gencom’s residential, asset management, development and finance teams to ensure accuracy in underwriting and the ensuing maximization of value creation. Since joining Gencom, Aly-khan has been involved with approximately $500 million in hospitality related transactions. Aly-khan’s solid background in the hospitality industry began with the re-development and disposition of a Quality Inn Hotel outside of Vancouver, B.C., Canada. Since that time Aly-khan has gone on to work in commercial finance with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce in Canada, in development with the United Kingdom based commercial real estate and assisted living development firm CareCo, and as the Director of Sales and Administration for the East African based Neptune Group of Hotels and Resorts. Aly-khan has also completed project work for Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, Sonnenblick-Goldman, and Exclusive Resorts. Aly-khan received a Bachelors of Business Administration degree from Simon Fraser University in Canada, and a Masters Degree with a focus in real estate finance from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration. While at Cornell, Aly-khan was a Dean’s list student and served as Vice President of the Cornell Real Estate Chapter. |
