Allan joined Pierce Atwood in April of 1993, bringing with him over 12 years of experience in workers’ compensation defense representing insurance carriers and self-insured employers. He began his career with the Portland, Oregon law firm of Schwabe, Williamson and Wyatt in 1982, where his workers’ compensation practice extended from the hearing level through Oregon’s three-tiered appellate process. He briefed and argued many cases before the Oregon Court of Appeals and Oregon Supreme Court. Allan moved to Maine in 1988 and spent the next five years representing employers and insurers in workers’ compensation claims. He also represented employers before the Maine Law Court and before the Department of Labor and First Circuit Court of Appeals in cases involving the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act. He continues to maintain an active workers’ compensation defense practice, while adding workers’ compensation expertise to projects involving employment, insurance, loss control, and OSHA. Allan also represents Maine’s largest workers’ compensation insurer before the Maine Legislature, Maine Bureau of Insurance and Workers’ Compensation Board. Finally, Allan represents employers in discrimination matters before the Maine Human Rights Commission. |
