Mr. Sternstein is the director of the Intellectual Property and Intellectual Property Litigation Department. He has more than 30 years of experience in patent, trademark, copyright and trade secrets litigation; counseling; and licensing. Mr. Sternstein has tried IP cases in Federal courts across the country, including one case where he presented before the jury and obtained a record-setting damages award of more than $100 million, and has argued before the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He is a member of the Illinois Trial Bar and has acted as an expert witness and as a mediator in patent disputes and has taught classes, authored and lectured on patent litigation, patent damages, patent law, patent prosecution and licensing.
Experience
Sternstein has practiced intellectual property law at several Illinois firms and corporations since 1973, including Abbott Laboratories where he was Division Patent Counsel. He has extensive litigation experience, successfully representing companies in complex cases which have earned him a reputation as one of the nation’s most respected IP lawyers. Sternstein has also acted as an expert witness and as a mediator in a variety of patent disputes. Sternstein is also an adjunct professor at the University of Illinois, College of Law, where he has taught Patent Litigation, Patent Law and Patent Prosecution. He has also taught classes on Patent Law and Patent Litigation at DePaul University, Chicago; St. Peter’s College, Oxford University, UK; and University of Victoria, Canada. |
