Alima Joned
Counsel
Washington, D.C.
A native of Malaysia, Alima Joned taught and practiced law in Malaysia prior to moving to the United States in 1991. She is the coordinator of Foley Hoag's Malaysia Team, a team within Foley Hoag that counsels multinational corporations based in Malaysia and in the United States on meeting the many practical and legal challenges of doing business in a global environment.
A lawyer trained in both the United States and Malaysia, Alima has the unique ability to appreciate the two countries' legal and political systems. She brings to bear this understanding when counseling her clients, making her particularly valuable at various stages of investment projects. Her clients consist of government-owned and privately-owned companies from Malaysia involved in all sectors, from oil and gas, to agriculture to manufacturing.
In addition to corporate clients, Alima advises Malaysian major trade organizations on a variety of U.S. law issues and The Malaysia-U.S. Friendship Council, an initiative of companies from the Malaysian private sector that is the forefront of efforts to deepen Malaysia-US bilateral relations.
As part of her training for this multinational practice, Alima taught courses in Malaysia on company law and the Malaysian legal system. In the United States she clerked for Chief Judge Ellen B. Burns of the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut.
