Alex Ferrara brings a variety of experience in growing successful companies throughout the enterprise software, IT and financial markets to the SelectMinds Board of Directors. As Vice President at Bessemer Venture Partners (BVP), Alex focuses on investments in software and financial services technologies. He has been actively involved with portfolio companies Revver, Zopa, Pure Networks, Quadriserv, Gerson Lehrman Group, SiteAdvisor, Skype, and Soleil Securities. Prior to BVP, Alex worked at Goldman Sachs in Technology Investment Banking, where he worked on merger advisory and financings in the IT services and software sectors. He came to Goldman Sachs from his MBA studies, during which he served as part-time associate with both RRE Ventures and Apax Partners in projects involving open-source and enterprise software. Alex was a member of the founding team of two companies: Mainline Marketplace, an online auction business, which was acquired by ChannelSpace Entertainment in 2000; and Boston Technical, an IT consulting practice serving Fortune 500 clients. He started his career in the financial sector as a commodities derivatives trader on the New York Board of Trade and a systems developer for Salomon Brothers. Alex holds an MBA from Columbia with an emphasis on finance and entrepreneurship, and a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. He has co-authored a book entitled Programming .NET Web Services, and taught several seminars on emerging technologies. |
