Alex Barkas, PhD serves as Chairman of our board of directors. Dr. Barkas is a Managing Director of Prospect Venture Partners, a venture capital firm. Prior to co-founding Prospect Venture Partners, he was a Partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB) from 1991 to 1997 where he focused on health care investing. Prior to KPCB, Dr. Barkas was a founder and managing partner of BioBridge Associates, a health care industry consulting firm from 1989 to 1991. Dr. Barkas serves or has served on the board of directors of Connetics, Geron, Novacept and SGX Pharmaceuticals, all now public companies or acquired by public companies, and of Amicus, Archemix, SurgRx, Transave, Verus, Zelos and several other privately held companies. He received a PhD in Biology from New York University and a BA in Biology from Brandeis University, where he currently serves as Chairman of the University Science Advisory Council. |
