Alejandro Zurbuchen S. was appointed General Manager of the Central Bank of Chile in August 2006.
Mr. Zurbuchen graduated in business studies from the University of Chile and has a master’s degree in business administration from the Adolfo Ibáñez University.
Since January 2005 he was the Auditor General of the Central Bank of Chile, and previously he had worked for 25 years for Shell S.A., occupying positions of differing degrees of responsibility.
He was Comptroller for the Southern Region (2004-2003, Buenos Aires) being responsible among other matters for business regulation and control, accounting, management information and taxation for Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. At the same time, he worked as Director and Legal Representative of Shell Argentina and other subsidiaries.
As IT manager (2002-1999, Santiago-Buenos Aires), he was in charge of providing and administrating computer services for the Southern Region.
Mr. Zurbuchen was also Operations Manager of Shell Chile (1998-1997, Santiago) and he had been Auditing Manager for Shell Expro (1997-1993) in Aberdeen, Scotland, where he carried out the commercial and financial auditing of the parent company and its joint ventures.
In the Chilean subsidiary he worked as Comptroller (1992-1989), Home Chemicals Sales Manager (1988) and Home Chemicals Product Manager (1987-1984), having been a staff trainee (1984-1980).
