Dr. Houghton holds the Ludwig Chair in Clinical Investigation, and is Vice-Chairman of the Department of Medicine, Co-Head of the Melanoma Disease Management Team, and Head of the Laboratory of Tumor Immunology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He was the Chairman of Immunology at Sloan-Kettering and The Weill Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences of Cornell University (Sloan-Kettering Division) for 10 years, stepping down in 2004, and currently is a Professor of Medicine and Immunology at the Weill Medical and Graduate Schools of Cornell. He is also Chairman of the National Cancer Center Networks Melanoma Committee and Co-Chairman of the CALGB Melanoma Study Group of the national cooperative clinical trials group. Dr. Houghton was the first to demonstrate effectiveness of monoclonal antibody treatment for solid tumors and his laboratory has identified molecules and molecular targets on cancer cells that may be useful for therapy, many of which are currently being evaluated in clinical trials. |
