As the corporate vice president of Audit at Microsoft, Alain Peracca oversees the Internal Audit Department with the principal charge of ensuring that management has designed and implemented sound internal controls of compliance and business ethics. As an independent, objective source of assurance and consultation, he adds value by bringing a systematic, disciplined and balanced approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes. He reports his findings and recommendations to senior management and the Audit Committee.
Peracca joined Microsoft in 2003 as the chief financial officer of the Windows Client Organization, one of Microsoft’s then-seven business divisions, and responsible for approximately 30 percent of corporate revenues, a position that he occupied until March 2006.
Before starting his finance career, Peracca studied initially in France in an engineering school, Ecole Superieure d’Ingenieurs de Marseille, where he graduated in 1980 as an Electronics/Computer Science Engineer. His first job was in Doha, Qatar where he worked for the Ministry of Public Health on a primary health care project as the computer department and data processing manager. After three-plus years in the job he decided to leave to complete his MBA. In 1985 he graduated from Columbia University with a finance major and was recruited by Hewlett-Packard to work in their European headquarters in Geneva where he stayed seven and a half years, occupying various financial management functions at the corporate and sales level. In 1993 he was asked to take the role of controller of the manufacturing and development operations in Bergamo, Italy and a few months later was asked to add to his responsibility the role of finance and administrative director of the Italian Sales Region. In 1996 he moved to California to become the worldwide controller of the Commercial Channel Organization at HP. He then took over the controller position of the newly created Home PC Division and was then promoted to the position of CFO of the overall PC & Appliances Business, a role he kept until the merger of HP with Compaq in May 2002. At that time he was asked to assist the CFO of the joint PC Business in the new HP and was assigned the responsibility of Mobility and Emerging Technologies Controller. On June 30, 2003 he left HP to join Microsoft as the CFO of the Windows Client Business.
Peracca is a French national with Italian origins, fluent in both languages. He is a member of the Financial Executives International Association and has been involved with various non-profit Organizations and Community events. He enjoys traveling around the world to stay in touch with his relatives and friends and is an outdoors enthusiast. |
