Adele R. Frankel is an associate in the law firm of McDermott Will & Emery LLP and is based in the Chicago office. As a member of the Intellectual Property, Media & Technology Department, Adele’s practice involves all aspects of patent, trademark, copyright, and unfair competition litigation and counseling.
Adele’s practice includes patent litigation and prosecution for clients in a wide variety of industries including the credit card, computer hardware and software, travel, aerospace and defense sectors. On the litigation side, she has experience researching legal issues, reviewing and drafting memoranda of law, reviewing and drafting pleadings, responding to interrogatories, assisting in depositions, and analyzing claims for non-infringement and invalidity contentions. She also provides strategic counseling and legal opinions to clients on infringement and the strength of their patent portfolios. On the prosecution side, she has experience analyzing and reviewing patent applications and responding to office actions.
Adele has extensive experience in trademark enforcement, trademark prosecution, and branding strategy and counseling. Adele also assists clients with domain name disputes in accordance with the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy, adopted by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
Adele has completed extensive coursework in computer science, including programming in C, software engineering, data structures, digital logic and computer organization. While in law school, Adele clerked for Justice Ayala Procaccia of the Supreme Court of Israel. She was also a member of the Cardozo Arts & Entertainment Law Journal and was a Public Service Scholar. In addition to her activities at school, Adele worked part-time in the General Counsel’s Office at American Express.
Adele provides pro bono legal services to community organizations as a volunteer for Lawyers for the Creative Arts. She also tutors students at Brown Elementary School in Chicago through McDermott Will & Emery’s Partners in Reading initiative.
Adele is admitted to practice in Illinois and before the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
